Sooo let me get this straight, Jen fuentas rails against elliott Auerbach in his bid for comptroller because he voted against prevailing wage to save hundreds of jobs in Kingston, and than she goes and votes to do the exact same thing for no particular reason??? What a hypocrite!
The fishbowl knows that Fuantas, Nilsen and her crew are not the brightest, not taken seriously and we also know that the union had had nothing to do with auerbach's race being close. They can take credit all they want but the only thing that made the comptroller race close was Quigley's money.
Now don't get it twisted the fishbowl couldn't care less about this issue, we just need to point out the hypocrisy and stupidity of fuentas. Ms.Fuentas must immediately put out a press release explaining her flip flop. The fish bowl has prepared one for her:

You have NO IDEA what you're talking about.
1. Elliott Auerbach saved hundreds of jobs in Kingston?! Oh really?? WHAT jobs? Colony Liquor? Well, you must've missed the update, but they're in GREENE County now, not Kingston. Way to go saving all those jobs.
2. What was the explanation for every Democrat breezing into office EXCEPT Auerbach if organized labor had nothing to do with it?? Lots of people spent money and lots of people won and lost. The ONLY difference between those races and Auerbach was union support.
3. Stupidity? It's FUENTES, not Fuantas. You're not really one to talk.
4. It's likely that you'll be hearing from Jen Fuentes about her "flip flop." There's also the option of getting in touch to get your facts straight before writing such nonsense.
5. The labor policy is a good policy that works. It works in plenty of other places, but their economic development teams actually have intelligence, instead of the simpering, spineless morons we have in Ulster County like the members of UCDC, the IDA, Chamber of Commerce and Lance Matteson. The labor policy has NEVER been used; all projects that have come forward since the establishment of the policy have either been grandfathered in or have had the policy waived. Yet the IDA and UCDC continually point to the labor policy as the reason they are completely unable to do their jobs and make even the slightest progress in Ulster's economic development. They use every excuse they can come up with to explain their inefficiency and failure to do the one thing that is expected of them. I suspect Jen Fuentes' vote to put a moratorium on the policy for one year is in response to that very problem; take away the only excuse these idiots still have and then after 12 months, let them explain why they are such incredible failures. The only hypocrites here are Auerbach, Matteson, Gallagher, etc. Jen Fuentes is the only person on the IDA who has had Ulster's interest at heart.

Fuentes has only one thing at heart and that is organized labor.
The true test of any IDA and or CDC is to compare them to neighboring counties and counties of similar size who have or don't have the prevailing wage policy. That is the only true way to tell if it mattered. Unless you have some way of asking the people who did not come here.
Fuentes can take credit for a few hundred votes, but not much more. Labor is not just her group. People in Labor know that no matter what, they are better off with Dems than any Republican.

I love how the "labor" people want to tell the "business" people what to do.
If using union labor and paying union wages makes sense and it good business for a company, then they will use it. If it doesn't make sense they won't.
That's democracy.
If you like something that a business has to offer, you will go there and buy their services.
If you think the business is overpriced and not worth the money, you might not use them.
Union labor is no different. If a company feels that the talent and training of a union work is better (and in many cases it is) then they will hire that person.
Not all union are the same, but the union employees that I work with have no specialized training. They were just a bunch of people who banded together to negotiate with employers for higher wages.
In the end the union dues to support the union bosses cancel out any extra wages that the union had negotiated for the workers.
All unions should not be lumped together though. There are unions that do train employees and provide a value to both the employer and the employee.
However, the marketplace (including governmental agencies) should be allowed to decided based on the merits of the union that they are dealing with. It should not be legislated.

Stupid? While you schmucks are sitting around watching sci-fi reruns, chewing your toenails, and blogging, I'm out volunteering on community boards for the betterment of our county and working long hours at a job that helps people earn a little dignity and respect in the workplace. I also graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin and received my MS degree on full scholarship from Cornell University. You may not like my politics, but I'm not stupid. I have passion for what I do, the cause I represent and will never apologize for taking a stand for what is right.
As for the IDA vote, I made the motion to waive the policy to let your pals at the UCDC stand and fall on their own incompetence. In a year with nobody to blame but themselves what can we expect? Bring on the roller skating arenas and chain hotels and let's call that economic development! Leading up to the vote I was presented with yet another watered down revision of the labor policy (the 3rd) and calculated no policy is better than poor policy, which is what the labor policy would become with the latest changes. For 30 years economic development in NY has been about tax breaks for business with the idea that it will trickle down to working families. Our young people are fleeing the state for brighter futures and wages and the overall quality of life is on the decline. Tax breaks with no expectation of returns for the taxpayer is a failed policy. Putting standards in place for workers in exchange for tax breaks was and is a sound public policy. So in a year we will end the debate once and for all.
As for Auerbach... Did I get something wrong??? Didn't he win??? If you are still stewing over endorsements after he won than you need a hobby. He has a lot to be proud of in his "landslide" victory.
