Rumors, Rumors, Rumors

Rumors are flying, we've confirmed some and are not sure about others. Here's the list.

1) There will be a second retirement from the legislature in the very near future. We guess one of three legislators. Mary Sheeley, recently appointed temporary Village Manager of Ellenville. Sheeley replaces Elliott Auerbach and may be looking to fill position permanently. Others could be Peter Loughran, he finally found a job or Sue Zimet. Zimet has been in Albany since her crushing Senate defeat two years ago looking for anything that pays. Rumor is Albany Democrats want nothing to do with her.

2) Democratic boss Julian Schreibman is working in NYC 3-4 days a week and has told friends he is only available for meetings Saturday, Sunday and Mondays. Fishbowl was told by an Executive Committee member in the know. Frustrated Democrats are miffed to have a part time party leader.

3) Democratic HQ will close shortly. Refer to #2. Screibman can not raise money.

4) Legislative Chairman Dave Donaldson's wife was laid off from her job and he's hounding everyone in county government trying to find her a job. The Chairman's confidential secretary job is opening up. Will Donaldson put her there? This would be political suicide for Democrats come November.

5) Julian Schreibman is supporting a non-Democrat for vacant District 3 seat. We're told Schreibman wants John Nilsen because it will cement labors support for Democrats.

Regarding your posting of No. 4-- Donaldson's former confidential secretary is the sister of his running mate (Legislator Loughran) who is now bouncing to the Legislative Clerk's post which was recently vacated by Mihm who is going back to Board of Elections. Wonder what tune they are playing for the musical chairs game?

When the Dems stop opposing labors agenda of gaining good paying jobs for Ulster county they will cement labors support. Right now more Dems are screwing that up than Republicans. Check out March Gallagher, Elliot and companys crappy IDA track record.

Good jobs obviously go against the Dem grain in Ulster. Labor will support the CANDIDATES that support the middle class and go against those that don't - no matter what the party- and that doesn't include weak lipservice.

I hear Bill Reynolds is going to run for County Clerk.

1. I hear Sheeley sticks around but either her or TJ Briggs is vulnerable this fall, probably Briggs.

2. Sue Zimet will run forever. She will stick with local office but could have beaten Hein for County Executive.

3. Julian cares about equality. Afterall the Republicans only have a 1/4 time Chairman and Julian wants equality for his party.

4. If Donaldson's wife gets a County job, look for the GOP to really unite and make a full court press for the Legislature.

5. Is Schreibman's support on the vacant Legislative seat even relevant? I didn't think so either.

6. I have also heard Bill Reynolds is looking at Running for Clerk. WOW.

I hear Briggs wants to run for Supervisor in the Town of Wawarsing.

He could easily defeat Jennings.

Given the Single Member Districts in the next election, that would be a wise choice for Briggs. He would never unseat Stoeckler, Sheeley or Cummings.

As stated in an earlier blog, Julian is too busy working out of town to be in charge, of course the big bad Julian supporters were too busy being spelling experts because I spelled Chairman wrong, just goes to show they are all on another planet when it comes to Julian. Mark my word on previous blogs, our curent chair is going to ruin the party...All because a few far out dems can't get over the past they had to ruin a perfectly well run party...As I also stated previously, the checkbooks won't be opened for Julian and his cronies...They are all a bunch of know-it-alls! So we will see HQ go down the tubes too. Such a shame and after only a few months at the helm. Now the Schreibmans want to stick their noses into Hurley business and try to change Krafts replacement to one of their own liking. The party will be in ruins real soon. See what happens when a bunch of ASSHOLES take over a party!

No one else will leave the legislature before this term is up. Zimet, Sheeley and a few other may not seek reelection, but they will stay put for now.

Julian is a newbie still feeling his way around. He will resign citing work issues and Stewart Fraser will take over, which may have been the plan all along. Dem HQ will close because of the lack of financial support from the so called new Democrats who seem to disappear when there is not an election featuring an ultra liberal Democrat like Hinchey running.

Labor is a hindrance in a bad economy. Only they think they are important. When most of their members are out of work next fall, they will realize the days of wine and roses are over for labor.

Donaldson's wife best look elsewhere for employment, his son did not work out too well from what I hear.

Bill Reynolds can not win a county wide race against Nina. Mayor or Alderman at Large on the other hand.....

Shreibman has no say in who replaces Kraft, so it doesn't matter who he supports.

I heard a rumor that certain Republicans on the legislature are offering up their votes in an effort to oust Donaldson. They do not like how cozy Donaldson and Noonan are. It has happened before, remember Alphonso & Sinagra? Look north and south for the wayward Republicans.

It occurs to me that Brian Cahill is the most likely to unseat Dave Donaldson. The GOP legislators will stop that by supporting Dave.

Susan Zimet's house is on the market, so watch for her to make an exit from local politics.

I hear Democrats are pissed because John Parete used his final day in office to hire Jeremy Blaber as a clerk in the Board of Elections at $41,000 a year.

Several prominent Democrats wanted that job for themselves or someone close to them. There are several VERY angry politicos.

Cummings has a lock in her district.

Bill Reynolds has no chnace running for County Clerk, matter of fact he will get beat in his own ward this coming year.

Nice try Noonan. There is no challenge to Donaldson and you know it.

9:26... voters are fickle

Last election cycle, Sue Cummings came in 1st in her district.

The previous election, she barely eecked out 4th place (for 4 Legislator spots)... Mary Mendola almost beat her.

Sue is a strong candidate, and is the longest standing current Legislator, but I assure you that probably even Sue herself would hardly consider herself a "lock"

Each election requires hard work from all candidates. No one gets a free ride unless they are unopposed.

I also wouldn't count out Reynolds or any other Democratic Clerk candidate.

I have no problem with Jeremy Blaber, but if Parete hired him with Kathy coming in, it is shows a total lack of respect for her. She has every right to hire her own staff. In fact, they all should put in their resignations and allow her to form her own team. Probably, most would be rehired.

KUDOS to Jeremy Blaber on his new job. Maybe now he will be left alone to do his job. He is a very nice young man. A job well deserved. He is a good democrat. Who else was going to get the job? Maybe Stuart was going to give it another try. He is such whiney cry baby. He should NEVER become party chair, that would be the real downfall of the party. It is almost there now, just imagine him at the helm. He gets "stressed out" over going to the bathroom!

The same John Nilsen that supported Quigley?? No f'in way will he ever get that seat and if he does he will not keep it.

Anonymous said...

Jeremy Blaber should never have been appointed to the BOE position!

What is going on? Jeremy was a staunch supporter of Jon Sennett, who was SCREWED by the Paretes.

Jeremy can not be trusted. Just ask the folks at KPA.

Anonymous said...

Blaber haters rejoice. Your nemesis has been screwed out of the BOE job. What will you lumps of shit do when Jeremy finally figures out that he should stop carrying water for a bunch of self-important, self-involved, do-nothings?
Just in case Democrats wonder why they can't get young people inolved (actually YOUNG people, not 35 year old "Young Democrats"), a look to how Jeremy, Josh Boughton and many others (I would name them but you old farts don't even care enough to learn their names) should give you the answer.
How did Obama win? He went right to the source of energy. Don't look now, Good Ole Boys, the kids are coming to get you.

5:06.... There was a meeting at Republican HQ Saturday morning and the Republicans are starting a "Young Republicans Club" for the 45 and under crowd.... That's right forty-five is considered a "Young Republican" in Ulster County these days.

Even the New York State Young Republicans (NYSYR) draw the line at 40. Times are tough in Ulster for Republicans.

A. There shall be four categories of membership in the NYSYR. They shall be Community-based clubs, College Republican-based clubs, Teenage Republican clubs and Individual membership.

1. Community-based Club membership shall be granted to any organized body in the State of New York meeting all of the following criteria:

a) Minimum of five (5) dues-paying members who are under the age of 40 all of whom have expressed a general preference for the principles of the Republican party.

5:06 here!
What's your point, Republicans are worse, so the Dem machine is right to push away young people? Try setting the bar a little higher and actually striving to accomplish something more than outrunning a bunch of REALLY old conservative white men.
This is a county blessed with two higher education institutions, New Paltz alone has almost 8000 students. These youngsters are the way out of this financial mess. We need to foster and harness their energy both politically and from a community action standpoint. We need to change the old system.

According to another blog, Susan Zimet (D) attended only 64% of committee meetings (attended 92% of meetings of the full Legislature). Zimet attended 60% of meetings of the Criminal Justice Committee and attended 56% of meetings of the Ways and Means Committee. Again: no reason to think Zimet will run again.

The Democratic headquarters should be moved to New Paltz where the free labor source is. I'm sure there'd be cheap available space there too. It's a no-brainer, Kingston is dead.

8:37 Julian would have to work pretty hard to be as much of an asshole as you or your "perfectly run" party that prided itself on its treason. I'm glad you took the time to at least learn how to spell. You're still a prick though. I'm sure the Conservatives will be glad to have you.

8:37's assertion that the party reflecting the mainstream of America is too far to the left is more indicative of his/her radical position on the extreme right fringe. His/her anger is misplaced and will undoubtedly manifest itself in some abuse of those nearest to them. These malcontents require close scrutiny to protect our public's safety. The threat of homegrown terrorism is far too high to ignore these red flags.
