Legislator to resign seat.

According to sources, Legislator Pete Kraft told several members of the Democratic Party last week that he will be resigning his seat effective January 1st. Kraft has not been seen much the past year and his work commitments finally forced him to leave office.

Kraft's seat, which covers Hurley, Olive and Marbletown will be well sought after by Democrats. It's a reliably Democratic seat and the opportunity to run with the Parete's should bring quality candidates into the fold. We hear that Rob Parete is considering a challenge to Nina Postupack, we believe it's rumor but will keep our ears open.

Lets handicap Krafts possible successors. Topping the list would be Dan Ahouse or Roy Hochburg. Both are Hurley guys and would be top tier candidates. Perennial candidate Mike Shultis will throw his name in the ring. Linda Bertone switched back to Democratic and she might mount a comeback. We would have to eliminate Shultis and Bertone, the Hurley Democratic Committee will likely look for a new face. Olive and Marbletown may be wild cards. While we can't think of any candidates from those areas some may challenge for the seat.

While we wait to see who emerges for the open seat, one has to wonder how long the Parete's have known about this. Have they spoken to potential replacements? Is the new legislator a done deal? Stay tuned.

It will be up to the Hurley Committee to endorse candidates at the June meeting of the UCDC. It seems that you are giving a lot of power to the Paretes.

That aside, Rob Parete would be an excellent candidate for county clerk. Democrats should be considering candidates for the position NOW.

John Nilsen would also be an excellent choice.

Hurley, Olive and Marbletown Democratic committees can make recommendations to the Legislature for a replacement. The Legislature makes the decision.

A vacancy in the County Legislature shall be filled by appointment by the County
Legislature of a qualified elector residing within the district no later than 30 days from
the time at which the vacancy occurs. If the appointment is not made within 30 days, a
special election shall be conducted to fill the vacancy within 90 days after the vacancy
occurs; provided, however, that if there is a scheduled general election within 120 days
after said vacancy occurs, the vacancy shall be filled at that general election. A person
who fills a vacancy, if appointed or elected at a special election, shall serve until
commencement of the calendar year next succeeding the first general election after the
happening of the vacancy at which a successor may be elected, and the vacancy shall be
filled at such election for the unexpired term. A person elected at a general election to fill
a vacancy shall serve out the remainder of the term for that seat.

Rob Parete for Clerk. He needs to negotiate a Conservative endorsement but will otherwise have WF. Bernardo hands Parete the Independence line and Parete, along with the Sheriff probably sweep.

Dan Ahouse? He is joined at the hip with Hinchey. I mention this this because it seems hard to believe that he would have the time to devote. Of course, if he spent only 10% more time than Kraft it would be saying alot too.

Rob Parete would retire Nina very easily. Dem, WFP, IND would be enough.

The question would become who would all of those Al Spada friends support? Parete The Democrat or Nina, like they did for Bradley.

By the way, who the Hell is John Nilsen? Who ever put his name needs some lessons in politics 101. Name recognition is everything.

Running against Postupak is beneath Parete.

Did another Democrat take a taxpayer paycheck without actually working? I can't believe it!!!!

John Nilsen SUPPORTED Quigley and as a Democratic committeeman, I will work very hard to make sure this guy does not get the line!

"Rob Parete for Clerk. He needs to negotiate a Conservative endorsement but will otherwise have WF."

??? I don't think the WFP should be considered a sure bet. That kind of arrogance is why they were reluctant to endorse Auerbach. They claim support but only care about gaining power for "Row A."

PS. 4:47pm maybe you need some political schooling... Nilsen is the President of Labor Council, President of one of the construction trades (?) and Commander of American Legion.

He can turn out the bodies for a campaign like nobody's business. Plus he cares about labor and vets. Not a bad constituency for the Dems to welcome to their liberal latte tent.

Where does Bernardo fit in with the Parente's, Nina will make up with Bernardo at some point...and will do it soon, looks like that line may make her election.

HEY 146: The guy Nilsen did not support Auerbach so I don't give a shit who he is. He will not the Democratic nod..you can take that to the bank!!!

I hear Nina told Bernardo that "she would never ask him for his help"

"never" seems pretty final to me

I'm sure she'll have no problem getting elected without the Independence Party backing her

Mario Catalano is a wizard at getting Republicans elected

re: "...along with the Sheriff probably sweep"

there are some who will prove otherwise.

4:47pm, if you don't know who John Nilsen is then you clearly aren't paying attention.

Who has Catalano got elected? He got swept in all county races and lost Kirwin's Assembly seat. Carnright won because the Democrats were split. The Democrats control the county and state legislatures.

Nilsen is a piece of shit, maybe Quigley will support him for county clerk.

This guy Nilsen would just be a place holder deal for a Nina win, the Dems are not that stupid. Lets face the facts.

I don't think Nilsen would run for Clerk, but Kraft's seat is a different story.

I heard that Patrick Sheehan left the UCDC to run for Clerk.

Pat Sheehan for Kraft's seat!
