Will Julian Be Smart for 09 and focus on Sennett's 2011 Bid?

I know that we are barley over this past election but as we look ahead to 2009 what will Julian do in the County Clerk's race? Nina Postupack is almost a lock for reelection and should probably switch parties and be cross endorsed for another term but will Julian, the clown prince of the radical left go for it? We doubt it and it's a shame, Postupack is not a bad clerk and if we don't play our cards right Dems will have a lot to lose.

Next year we have the legislature up, and if Uncle Al Spada feels Postupack is in trouble he will throw a ton of money in the race and it may cost Dems the legislature.

Another benefit of a cross endorsement is that if we do not have a county wide campaign to worry about it can give us a head start on a county-wide campaign the Dems CAN and WILL win. Of course, I speak of the office of District Attorney and it will give our next DA, Jonathan Sennett an opportunity to get a head start on fundraising and allow him to trample over the very vulnerable Holley Carnright in 2011.

Now, the staff at the Fishbowl realize that the party is bigger than one person and there should not be special favors given for specific people but the benefit of cross endorsing is much bigger than just Jon Sennett and the DA's race. Unless Dems put up a candidate like Rich Parete or Brian Cahill for county clerk, they will lose, which hurts them in future races and in the local races that will take place next year.

Julian is in a tough spot, if he runs a Sue Zimet candidate and loses the clerk race and legislature, he will be out on his ear next year but if he cross endorses, the radical left that put him in office will turn on him. Will he stand up and show leadership or will he pander to people who really have no clue about politics, only time will tell.

schreibman has no clue whaqt he should be doing...First he is about to lose the comptroller race and he left his candidate hanging out there for the entire election..no money no support. Second...no one they have will beat Nina so they should cross endorse. She is apolitical and doing a great job but Schreibman will not do it and then will look even more foolish. Third- Schreibman is going to run for DA...why do you think he has been doing all of this.

Hey 10:38 AM...what a crock.

Julian Schriebman was elected 5 weeks before the election. To lay the comptroller's race at his feet is bull. John Parete was the chair through most of the election season. Will Julian be given credit if Elliott pulls out a victory?

The Democrats have a wealth of talent and should run a candidate for county clerk. Cross endorsements do not give voters a choice. It's time to understand that Democrats are in the majority and to stop fearing Spada's money, that is antiquated thinking.

Julian has promised that he is not running for DA. He would not have gotten the full committee support if he didn't make that promise.

I do agree that Jon Sennett should be our DA candidate. Carnright is weak.

Julian was elected to chair on Sept. 29th - 5 weeks before the general election. What did John Parete do prior to that for Elliot? Parete had all of June (after the nominating convention), July, August and September to work for Elliott. Don't blame Schreibman; there was no momentum to pick up. Had Parete been doing his job for chair, maybe Elliott would've been the clear winner by now.

If anyone wants to be county clerk, I would suggest that they switch party enrollment to the Conservative Party.

There's one line..... C

Anyone who runs against Postupack is pretty much guaranteed the Independence Party Line

There's two lines...... I

Let's say the person was a friend of the Democrats....

That's three lines.... D

Go for WF... That is an unprecedented four lines

C, I, D, WF

against Ms. Postupack's R

Maybe she's not as much of a sure thing.

The final month of this "election season" was when Quigly really became noticed. There was no response to any of his attacks. Poor leadership in responding. Parete is not the chair anymore, it's Schreibman now, and he has been a no show.

you are all idiots,,, Leave Nina Postupack alone, she does a magnificient job as our County Clerk - Non-Partisan forget Spada & his $$$$$,, irelevent - what is relevent is Nina's job performance,, wonderful !

concentrate on other stuff but forget beating Nina,,,

You are all truly ignorant & let yr emotions & dislikes get in the way of clear thinking.

I agree, "concentrate on other stuff". How about concern over Sheriff and DA.

Quigley's campaign consisted of buying signs.

You're down on Julian because he didn't do anything for Elliott. Did he do anything for the other candidates? Hinchey? Delarose? Skartados? McGrath? Cahill? Hein? Delarose lost too. The others got themselves elected with a great support team. Elliott chose Werner and Blabber. 'Nuff said.

A duh. The Sheriff and DA are not running for office next year. Other than the Spada/Kirschner deal that provided no election opponents can you think of one time when the Republican majority cross-endorsed a Democrat? This is politics, Postupak should have to present her credentials to the public through an election.

9:36 is correct. Democrats should put on of their own up against Ms. Postupack. No other elected official gets a free ride, why should she?

The people that she is connected to are part of the problem in Ulster County and I think that if she were to be replaced that the old stranglehold of the past would begin to lift.

A duh your right, sheriff and DA are not next year, so let's wait until 2010. GOP isn't so lax. I heard Van Vleet was very visible and surrounded at their annual dinner.

harry will get stomped if he runs against PVB. Just becuase they are popular republicans, does not mean a damn thing to the now heavily democratic voting public. Especially for an office like Sheriff. Ulster county will probably never elect a republican sheriff again.

Is there truth to the rumor that Nina is switching parties?

I find this post intriguing.

Rich Parete or Brian Cahill against Nina Postupack could really prove if the Democrats have something or the Republicans are really on the way out. Nina would draw huge numbers from the Republicans we know, but does she have the same cross over appeal that say, Lew Kirschner did? This would be a true test for both sides, especially Julian. Both Parete and Cahill have enough name recognition and are both liked enough in their districts to make it a worthy battle.

The Democrats need to run a competent woman for county clerk.A woman who does not carry the partisan bagage of a legislator.

Nina is a legend only in the mind of the Kingston insiders. Once you get outside of Kingston, no one knows, nor gives a crap who Nina is.

Democrats can take this spot easily.

Hey 6:16:
Sell that logic to Ken Post, an incumbent who thought he was "in like flint" too, but was "stomped" by a popular republican.

Hey 2008 8:45 PM:

There is a BIG difference between 1982 Ulster County and 2008 Ulster County... like about 15,000 or so more Democrats.

Nina will get the Kingston team working, Quigley will help, he'll work something out with Bernardo, Hein will help and the money comes from Spanda and crew. Nina wins. Bring on the Parete's.

"Our next UC DA, Sennett"? God, you are starting to sound like Blaber now. You have a love affair with Jon too? Does he make your leg tingle?

Hey 10:07...
Not for nothing, Sennett has done nothing but POSITIVE things for the Democrats since he got involved. He is at every event possible and is involved in the local as well as National levels of politics. He went to Pennsylvania for election day if Im not mistaken and has been at numerous Committee meetings since then. The man would make a great DA, and too many people get on here and crucify him without knowing the backstory. Just because you read some propoganda somewhere, like the New Paltz Times, does not make it TRUE NOR VALID. When the New Paltz Chairman made an "honest error" it was Sennett who she called, and it was Sennett who helped out. He dropped everything to help the Chair even after he offered to file the paperwork as his office is 2 blocks away from the BOE in Kingston and was told that the chair would take care of it. It was the chair who knew when it needed to be filed, and it was the chair who had it postmarked days after it was due, hence why the BOE refused it.
Jon is what this county needs as a democrat and as a DA, and people "involved" in UC Politics should do HALF of what Sennett does. You people would rather run "newbies" away because of your pride and your Clique, and THATS why the party is torn.
Sennett should make your leg tingle, as he does more for this County than most people do who have no problem riding in on a false high horse.

Hey 10:38AM. Have you checked the comptroller's race lately? You're very quick to castigate Schriebman but the facts show that the DA race was lost on Parete's watch.

Currently we have wins by Obama, Hinchey, Cahill, Skatados over Larkin, Hein and most probably Auerbach. Does Schriebman get some kudos? Or only misguided contempt.?

If Nina does such a great job as county clerk, why is it that when I searched the property records from the 1940's, there is nothing in there that is in alphabetical order? That is pathetic if you ask me-- you have a room full of computers next door and no alphabetization of indexes for these records. That adds a lot to the fees of those who do that kind of work for a living I am sure just due to the extra time it takes to run through and find what you are looking for in these records due to non-alphabetized indexes.
Maybe if Uncle Al wasn't telling stories about how "women are animals due to their periods" to no good devils he was hiring for the records department(different location than glass menagerie) and so forth, someone may have paid attention before now to this deficiency. Seems to me we spend a ton of money on county government and the service in return is shabby, despite what the award my brother the career pol gave to her dept. some years ago for the record-keeping in the building designated for that. Seems to me first of all Nina is a nice person, yes, I remember her well from school, but please, enough with the spin and the self-congratulations when you fail to pay attention to the basics.
