Interesting news on Legislator Sue Cummings bid to become Wawarsing Town Clerk. A well informed Republican tells us that Sue has a small chance at best of defeating Deputy Clerk Roxanne Shamro, her Democratic opponent. At the Conservative caucus Roxanne out polled Sue by a 26-4 margin. Cummings husband John is the former chair of the Wawarsing Conservatives. My insider tells me that Sue can be a legislator for as long as she wants, but Wawarsinites will not vote for her clerk. Shamro is to well liked and people feel she deserves the job after working as deputy so long.
Some think Sue decided to leave the legislature to run for town clerk because Senator Bonacic had become a minority member of the Senate. With minority status he would have less staff and office space. With the Senate in limbo there may now be an opportunity for Bonacic to keep everything at pre 2009 levels.
If Sue decides to run for legislature this would be a pick up for Republicans. With Bernardo cross endorsed she is a win. Cummings would have to petition a primary against Stoeckeler, Briggs, Bernardo, and Sheeley. Republicans starving for a candidate would come out in masses to support her. The weakest Democrat, Briggs would be odd man out. With Bernardo, Stoeckeler, and Sheeley being crossed endorsed they win in November. This sets up a Cummings vs. Briggs battle for the final seat. We don't see how Briggs, a former Republican would have a chance of beating Cummings. Looking at last election cycle when Democrats did well Sue led the entire ticket and was 500 plus votes ahead of Briggs.
It may be a long shot scenario but after 20 years does Sue Cummings want to go out with a near guaranteed loss?

Another entitled Politician who thinks it is O.K. to run for whatever office suits their personal needs best at a given time.
It has nothing to do with serving the community in which they live, only what they can get out of it. Whatever Sue.
Catalano is not the only person who should be listening.
One is Len Bernardo who sold his Independence Party soul to get his wife appointed Legislator. Briggs is not necessarily the person who loses in this race. He beat Bernardo last time didn't he? Bernardo is obviously the one at risk, not Briggs the incumbent.
If Cummings runs, I would say to Len Bernardo, Everything that you sacrificed to get your wife on that line is out the window. All bets are off. The Republicans did not hold up their end of the bargain....imagine that?
The other person who should be listening is Julian Shcriebman. He will also get screwed if Cummings runs. He should come up with candidate #4 for that district like he should have in the first place.
This is why all of those back room deals are so bad. You never know when someone will have a change of heart and exercise their right to run for office. That is, a run for office that has been obstructed by the party bosses as is so often the case when these cross endorsements are proposed.
Sometimes these guys are just "too smart" for their own good. LOL!

The fact that Roxanne is a registered member of the Conservative Party was left out of your analysis. Maybe that had something to do with her good turnout at the convention.
Bet Mr. Kingpin Catalano didn't figure this into his wheeling and dealing so his Town of Ulster "buds" could be guaranteed endorsements.

Democratic" opponent that you portray her to be. She is a member of the Conservative Party (the arch enemy of the Working Families and Democratic Parties).
This Democratic (Jane Eck) and Conservative (Roxanne Shamro) alliance is nothing more than a marriage of convenience and a hijacking of the respective parties to advance Jane and Roxanne's agenda.
Roxanne is going to hire Jane's daughter as the new deputy.... Democrats and Conservatives together. Just wait and see. What bullshit.
When true Democrats find about about this little scam/deal that was made with their party line they will not be happy.

I think Bernardo is the one screwed over. Did anyone really trust a Republican? If Sue really wanted to get over she could beat Bernardo to the punch and flip to the Democratic side, and vice-versa for Terry. Ex-Republicans get all the respect these days. I wouldn't trust Bonacic either. He's a slippery one.
It"s a town clerk election party is not important. The person has been there for years its her seat not some political hack appointment. Catalano and Bernardo both should stop listening to Bonacics boy Chapman he has not won a race vin Ulster County yet

I just got home from the Wawarsing Caucus and Sue Cummings was endorsed by the Republicans for Town Clerk. Looks like she is NOT running for Legislator.
That other woman who wants to run for Legislator was there though, and she seemed to be making a lot of enemies. No one could figure out why she was there. Here's a clue... if you want to win in District One, you need the support of the people in Wawarsing.

I was fooled!!! I found out today, Conservative Party Member Roxanne Shamro perfers to run with The Democrats. She don't want just Conservative Pary Campagin Stuff out.
