County Court

Why are the candidates for county court paying any attention to this crazy judicial committee that Stuart, I mean Julian has put together.

Let's get two things out of the way, Julian being in NYC everyday gives Stuart the ability to run the party including having influence on who is going to serve on what committee ect...

Have you ever seen the movie Casino? DiNero's character says to the reporter, You kno day to day, I am the boss, I guess you can say that....well that is Stuart..the real boss of the Ulster Dem party.

Secondly, for such an open and transparent process few people know of the names the committee are considering...here they are... Mike Meranda, Jonathan Katz, Gilda Ricardi, Emanual Ninji, and Ms. Shneer.

Now getting back to my point the committee has a good chair in Joe O,Connor but after that the committee members are all cronies to Julian and Stuart...why in the world is Tom Hoffay or Stuart Fraiser put on a judicial committee over Kossover or Sennett..you know actual criminal trial lawyers!

The committee is going to request three names to the Governor with only four real candidates, Ninji apparently wants the appointment but is not willing to run...it makes no sense to me either but you don't have to pas an IQ test to work in the Poughkeepsie AG's office I assure you.

Not to mention the committee is stacked for Rochester Justice Schneer anyway, she is the candidate with the least experience but is a frontrunner...why? You guessed it, because she is a lesbian Judge from Stuart's hometown.

And who says the Governor is going to make an appointment before the convention anyway? Look how long it took to replace Bradley Sr., and look at the heat Patterson took for Gillibrand.

If I am Katz or Mirenda I would say fuck the bullshit and take it straight to the Democratic convention and also start seeking out the support of the minor party lines...deadlines are approaching, don't miss out on your future because the DEMS and their leader, Schriebman, don't have their shit together.

To My Ulster County Friends:

There is going to be an election in November for County Court Judge to fill the vacancy due to the retirement of the Honorable Mike Bruhn.

Many of you may not be aware that my friend Don Williams is actively seeking the Republican, Independent, and Conservative endorsements for the position. Out of all the folks who have announced their intention to run, I am supporting Don because quite frankly he is the most experienced and qualified. Don has spent twenty nine years in the District Attorney’s office as Assistant District Attorney, Chief Assistant and District Attorney. He has the most hands on experience dealing with felons; murderers, robbers, and rapists. Ulster County residents deserve to have the strongest candidate for County Judge. That unequivocally is Don.

You are welcome to join me in whatever capacity you can to help get Don elected. Thank you.

Why not sign your name to that post?

1:56 PM, No Thank-You, Don was shown the door from the DA's office. His staff was running for the door so fast he saw the writing on the wall. Why would anyone back him for Judge? He is super nice to the everyday folks, but behind closed doors, he is a nasty man. Just ask any of his ADA's who worked under him how he was verbally abusive and just plain mean. Everyone walked on eggshells around him in that office.

I will tell you why you support Williams....because the Dem alternative, based on who is running, ain't good. Look at that list of candidates. All nice people I am sure, but if you were a lawyer, or a defendant for that matter, would you want them making decisions based on law on your case. None of them have enough experience to do the job or win an election. I am no William s fan, but who the dems are putting up is a joke.

Ask the folks who worked for or with Williams about fairness and being open minded. This is the guy who would not do a damn thing about the Jail. He would not investigate, he would not dedicate any manpower, he would not do anything. No thanks Don, stay doing DWI's and traffic tickets.

Like most of the country, I'll vote against anyone associated with the Republican party. I'm with the 79% even if it means electing a parking meter.

I would like to say, that just because you do a job for "twenty-nine years" doesnt mean that you are GOOD at it. 1:56, have you ever SEEN Don Williams Try a case? Do you know what his Track Record is? I have watched him in action, and he is was a medeocre DA at best. The fact that he's arrogant, closed minded, has no desire to "hear the other side" is what makes YOU think HE would be a good judge, or that HES any better than who the Democrats put forward? Please... before you go making such strong statements, maybe you should do some research.

And hats off to 7:20, how QUICKLY everyone forgets what REALLY went down over time.

Being a County Court Judge is not about how long you spent on ONE SIDE of the equation. It is about experience as a judge, legal scholarship, temperment and the ability to see an hear BOTH sides and in fact BE fair to both sides while taking the interest of the communtiy into consideration.

The Honorable Jonathan D. Katz is the only candidate who fits the bill. He has more judicial experience than ANY other candidate for this office. He efficiently manages one of the busiest dockets in the County (more than Rochester, Shandaken and the NOTHING that Williams presides over) and does so with patience and humility (another term NOT associated with Mr. Williams). Judge Katz has also done more than any other jurist in this state for gay rights. Yes, Judge Bruhn (Williams' & Miranda's role model) overturned the decision dismissing Jason West's case. However, electing Judge Katz puts someone who exhibited more scholarly acumen in one decision than Judge Bruhn did in nearly two decades on the bench.

Just this once, why don't you people ask someone in the field in question. Ask a criminal lawyer (D.A. & defense) in Ulster County who they'd most like to see as Judge.

Emanuel Nneji . . . be serious!

7:54 aka Cardozo,,,,,

what the *%$#& does Gay Rights have to do with County Court ???

NOTHING ! enough of this diversion from the Gay community,,

we in Ulster County want
J U S T I C E ,, folks & that means a strong, fair TOUGH Jurist on the bench.
Jon Katz barely can get out of his swimming pool to arraign bad guys in the night in NP,, he is a fancy rich boi with a poor work ethic & way too liberal views.

PUT THE BAD GUYS AWAY !! that will get you elected,, look @ his record in New Paltz Justice Court,, pathetic !!!

Don Williams is the most viable candidate to keep your home, property & businesses safe.

Quite laughable. Great Republican tactic: FEAR.

If Wlliams was so great at protecting property, why was his own house burglarized . . . twice!?

Please, go ahead and nominate Williams, then go ahead and watch this race turn into a one-issue campaign about - yep you gussed it - gay rights. Good luck winning on that, relevant or not.

Fairness and justice have EVERYTHING to do with County Court. By the way, it is located at 285 Wall Street, on the main floor of the old building. I'd draw you a map, since you have NO CLUE, but this comment section won't let me.

Judge Katz is the best choice we can make. Save your anti-semiic crap for Kingston.

Katz? Gee, I don't quite think he is the best choice, actually never even heard of him and believe me I know the courts. Not a very well known or established town court Judge that is for sure. Has he ever even done any trials in the town court. The County Court position is way out of his league. Anyone from the DA's office or an attorney who does a lot of work in county court would be the best choice. Mike Miranda is by far more qualified, take it from someone who knows the DA's office and the workings of OCA, that is the Office of Court Administration for those of you who don't have a clue. He knows the DA's job inside and out, city court and even the town court system which is the least of his qualifications. Being a Town Court justice is not a qualification for county court, you don't even have to be an attorney to be a town court judge. You sure have to be an attorney to be a County Court Judge. Miranda all the way!!

Obviously you are neither a judge nor an attorney, so I will NOT believe you when you right like an ignoramus to tell us about the courts, as you obviously know NOTHING about them.

Any practicing attorney in Ulster County knows and respects Judge Katz as an even-tempered and fair jurist. Never heard of him, you say? That's because you don't know what you are talking about.

Mike Miranda is a nice guy. Not exactly a go-getter. Unfortunately, he has as his role models Judges Bruhn and Vogt.

Sorry. No thanks. We've got serious problems in County Court that need energy and ingenuity. We are ready to move forward, not backwards.

14 years Jonathan Katz has been a judge.

Why don't you jerk offs stop pretending you know what you are talking about. This isn't a game or a popularity contest.

Vote for the REAL Judge, Jonathan Katz.

Dear Mr. Parker

Your 'writing' is not right so you should not be calling anyone an ignoramus.

7:19... what are you TALKING about?
Im sorry that you do not know who Katz is, but thats your own fault, the man has been in this county for decades, he has been a judge AND is an attorney in our area. The fact that you've been living under a rock doesn't mean that Katz is unqualified or whatever your alluding to. "I know the courts"... apparently not New Paltz at all buddy. And frankly, who are you to deem anyone more or less qualified for a position when you yourself stated you have no idea who katz is.

9:57...THANKKKKKKKK YOU!!!

7:01...its a blog, "correct" writing is what??? I dont see where it says anywhere "if joining into the discussion only those using proper and formal english will be posted"

Worry about the substance of the comment, thats what blogs are for, if you want to grade a paper and grammar check, go get a job at a highschool.
